A couple of weeks ago, I changed the hardrive inside my mac, reinstalled Snow Leopard and didn’t transfer anything from my Time Machine backups and did what’s called a “clean install”. The only thing i transfered to my “new” macbook were som system preferences and chainring using the MobileMe sync utility. I reinstalled alle the Application one after one, manually.
Here’s when it became tricky: I imported the music from the OLD HARDDRIVE to iTunes on the “new macbook” but i didn’t find out how to transfer the playlists, the playcount, the iPod and iPhone settings, and all that… The Migration Assistant didn’t seem to want to let me do that. I googled for hours and hours but wasn’t able to find anything.
Well all I had to do was to transfer the folder that’s called iTunes (ROOT>*user*>music>iTunes) from the old harddrive to the new one. It’s a folder where the iTunes library file, the ringtones folder, podcast folder and other folders are stored.
That’s it, next time I opened iTunes the library got updated and everything was in place.
Hope this was helpfull!
