Ricoh GR2, first impressions

The Ricoh GR is a pocket sized compact camera with quite a cult following. I’ve been curious about the camera for a few years, and finally managed to score one second hand a week ago. The JPEG files straight from camera are quite nice, but I’ve shot raw and JPEG files since the start, and feel that I get even better results developing the raw-files in Lightroom with little effort.

I’ve always liked the 28mm focal range, specially for “quick and dirty” snapshots. Ricoh recently launched a GR IIIx with a 40mm (equivalent) lens. When I hitchhiked from Oslo to Beirut a few years ago, I only brought a 28 and a 40mm lens. It was a really good combo, so not buying the GRIIIx is going to be really hard.

Pros and cons of the GRII so far:
💪 compact size, little weight
💪 quick operation
💪 great focal range, sharp lens
💪 powerful built-in flash
😱 slow auto-focus, specially in low light
😱 proprietary USB port, needs special cable
😱 no viewfinder
